A true like minded partnership
We are thrilled to embark in this new project with Fnac, the French entertainment and culture retailer with 150 stores in seven countries, 19 of them in Spain. Their curator of photography in Spain, Ana BolÃvar, is well acquainted with eyephoneography as she was one of the members of the selection committee of eyephoneography #2 and contributed a meaningful essay in its catalog. Besides the positive experience of working together, this collaboration is the result of similar interests and convergent viewpoints about the role of culture and photography in our society.
As a matter of fact, since its inception, Fnac has considered photography one of its most recognizable identity traits and has conducted a cultural work to accompany their business with exhibitions, screenings and meetings with artists, authors and public, thus contributing decisively to the promotion of culture.
Six years ago, Fnac Spain began its own trajectory with the programming and independent production of a number of initiatives based mainly in the work of Spanish photographers and emerging talents. Fnac hosted the first photography exhibit of Pedro Almodóvar as a photographer, the multidisciplinary project ‘Origens-Seeds’ – of the cinema director Bigas Luna – and Carlos Saura’s ‘Painted photographies’. Fnac Spain has also brought the work of major international photographers to Spain.
Via dedicated galleries in the stores, Fnac organizes concerts, shows, conferences, etc. that draw communities of experts, amateurs and laymen all combined. Fnac Spain also have an innovative, comprehensive and well-curated online space (ClubCultura.com), where all the events are published.
Involving the local community
Both eyephoneography and Fnac share the value of involving local communities in its activities. As for eyephoneography, this local community includes mobile photographers but not only. In this context, like we have done in the past, we hope to continue to find room for those mobile photographers interested who cannot be physically with us. We will be working with store managers and the local community to explore ways of organizing activities in parallel to the shows.
